The story of the proposal is, for Brittany, the most thoughtful gesture she could have imagined. The entire occasion caught her by surprise. Brittany was in Utah visiting Lane for another of their mutual friends’ weddings (fate, we know!), and so, Brittany did not think Lane was planning anything of the sort during this particular visit. She was… wrong!
After attending church on the last day of her visit before returning to Kansas, Lane said he wanted to take Brittany to the Springville Museum of Art, located in a town nearby. Brittany, a lover and appreciator of all things art and art history, had wanted to go to this museum for years and had never gotten around to it. She thought it was a great idea!
The two drove to the museum. On the way however, Lane and Brittany spotted a pretty bad car wreck, which appeared to knock out power to the street lights in and around the area. We were hoping the museum would have better luck – since it is located only blocks from the scene. But, no such luck. That didn’t matter though… Lane was on a mission to ask Brittany the BIG question.
Lane and Brittany arrived, walked to the museum doors, and were greeted by a museum curator who, a bit suspiciously, greeted the couple by name.
“Are you Lane?” he asked.
Turning his head to greet her, he said, “You’re Brittany?”
The man stated, “Come on in.”
It was a private tour of sorts, even if that wasn’t the original plan. The museum staff allowed the two to walk through the museum despite the building’s power outage. They locked the doors to the public in the meantime.
They were led upstairs and into a particular gallery. That’s when Brittany turned the corner and spotted it leading to an archway. The scene was highlighted by the natural sunlight coming through the museum’s atrium: a photo of Lane and Brittany blown up and displayed on an easel. Below their picture, a special placard. It read,
“Will you marry me?” #ForeverOlson
Lane proceeded to get down on one knee and tell Brittany how much he loved her, saying she was exactly what he wanted; exactly what he needed. The moment was a rush for Brittany, who squealed at the sight of that placard. Lane asked if Brittany would spend forever with him and she agreed. He put a beautiful ring on Brittany’s finger and they embraced, wiping away tears as they fell.
Lane presented Brittany with the most amazing bouquet of red roses she’d ever seen and a sweet present from her parents they’d been stashing away for this moment. More hugs and kisses followed. Then, it was time to end their private museum tour. They were shown out and just before the newly-engaged couple headed for the front door of the museum… the power was restored and the lights turned back on.
